Trauma Therapist

RACES (Rape Advocacy, Counseling & Education Services) seeks a full-time therapist to join our therapy department and provide mental health therapy to survivors of sexual violence age 3 and up. This position will conduct approximately 20 hours a week of individual or family therapy and facilitate therapy groups.

Preference for candidates who are able to provide therapy in Spanish and English ($2500 additonal annual pay for bilingual staff).

Qualifications:

At least nine months of therapy experience with both adults and children.
Excellent communication skills, ability to work with a diverse population, and a team-focused orientation.
A master’s degree in social work, counseling, or related field.
Degree must be license eligible, but a license is not a requirement for this position.
Experience with marginalized communities preferred.

RACES provides supervision to obtain LCSW/LCPC licensure at no expense to employees.

Weekday Survivor Advocate

RACES (Rape, Advocacy, Counseling, Education Services) is seeking compassionate individuals to advocate on behalf of sexual assault survivors ages 3 through adult in local hospital emergency rooms and to offer crisis intervention to their family members. Applicants must have at least six months of paid or volunteer experience in a social service setting, use of a personal cell phone, reliable transportation, and the ability to arrive at Urbana hospitals within 45 minutes.

This is a part-time, on-call position. Advocates get paid $30 per day that they are on call whether they are called to the hospital or not and an additional hourly rate of $20 per hour for time spent advocating at the hospital.

Position is Friday on-call shift, running from 8 AM-6 PM. Medical Advocates are free to go about their daily lives while on-call, with the understanding that they must be able to leave immediately for the hospital upon receiving a call.

Who can receive support?

RACES supports survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. Our services are free and confidential, and you do not have to report to law enforcement to receive support.

RACES serves Champaign, Douglas, Ford, and Piatt Counties.

What happens when I call the hotline?

You do not need to know exactly what you need before you call.

1. An answering service will pick up
You can request a Spanish-speaking representative if you prefer. You do not have to give your name; callers can remain anonymous.

2. You choose how you want to connect with an advocate
You can ask to be connected with an advocate right away, or you can leave a phone number for an advocate to call you back.

3. You’ll speak with a RACES advocate
Once you are connected, you can ask questions, talk about what you need, or learn more about your options and RACES services. You decide what you want to share.
