How we can support you
You can use one service or multiple. What support looks like is up to you.
24/7 Crisis Hotline
You can call our hotline any time to talk with a trained advocate and share as much or as little as you want.
An advocate can listen, answer questions, help you think through your options, provide information and referrals, or connect you with other RACES services.

Medical Advocacy
If you choose to seek medical care after sexual violence, a RACES advocate can provide information, support, and help you understand your options.
Advocates can also provide in-person support during a sexual assault medical forensic exam, which may include collecting evidence using a sexual assault evidence kit (sometimes called a “rape kit”).
Legal Advocacy
If you are considering reporting sexual violence or are involved with the criminal or civil legal system, an advocate can help you understand your options and provide support throughout the process.
This may include support when talking with law enforcement, navigating court processes, seeking information about protective orders, navigating housing laws, or communicating with a school or campus.
Counseling
RACES offers free, confidential counseling for survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. Counseling is centered on what you want to talk about and what feels helpful to you.
Support may include individual counseling, support groups when available, and help coping with the emotional effects of sexual violence.
Education Services
RACES also provides sexual violence prevention education, professional training, and community outreach.

Your donation helps make these services available to survivors and supports our work to prevent sexual violence in our community.
Who can receive support?
RACES supports survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones. Our services are free and confidential, and you do not have to report to law enforcement to receive support.
RACES serves Champaign, Douglas, Ford, and Piatt Counties.
What happens when I call the hotline?
You do not need to know exactly what you need before you call.
1. An answering service will pick up
You can request a Spanish-speaking representative if you prefer. You do not have to give your name; callers can remain anonymous.
2. You choose how you want to connect with an advocate
You can ask to be connected with an advocate right away, or you can leave a phone number for an advocate to call you back.
3. You’ll speak with a RACES advocate
Once you are connected, you can ask questions, talk about what you need, or learn more about your options and RACES services. You decide what you want to share.
