Mission and Services

The mission of Rape Advocacy, Counseling, & Education Services is to challenge the rape culture and empower victims and survivors of sexual violence through advocacy, counseling, education, crisis intervention, and activism.  We also work with non-offending significant others, allied professionals, and the community at large to end all forms of sexual violence.  We believe that working to end sexual violence, a widespread form of oppression that primarily victimizes women and children, is essential to building a world free of all forms of oppression.

We offer a variety of services to victims/survivors of sexual assault, abuse, and harassment and their non-offending significant others who live or work in Champaign, Douglas, Ford, and Piatt counties in East-Central Illinois.  All services are free and confidential.  You do not have to report to the police to receive assistance.  Even if the violence occurred year ago, you can still get help.

  • Crisis Hotline: We operate a 24-hour, 365 day a year crisis hotline.  Through the hotline you can access crisis counseling services, information and referral, and support.  Just call 217-384-4444 or 877-2-END-RAPE.
  • Medical Advocacy: Trained advocates respond to local hospitals 24-hours a day.  They can accompany a victim through the evidence collection and medical treatment process; provide support; give information about options and rights; and assist with safety planning.
  • Legal Advocacy: Our legal advocates can assist you with navigating the civil and criminal justice process.  This includes assistance in filing for Civil No Contact and Stalking No Contact Orders.  They can also help you assert your rights as a crime victim and accompany you to meetings with officials and court hearings.
  • Counseling: Individual, group, family, and child counseling is available for those age three and older for both victims/survivors and their non-offending significant others.  There are no fees, and your insurance will not be charged.
  • Public Education and Training: We provide education and training about sexual assault, abuse, and harassment to a wide variety of audiences.  Our Child Assault Prevention Education Program provides age appropriate education to elementary aged students.  We also provide education to children in public and private school districts, as well as specialized training to professional allies.  Please contact our offices at 217-344-6298 if you have questions about scheduling a presentation.
